In just one month as Area Controller of the Seme Command, Comptroller Wale Adenuga has delivered a record-breaking performance that redefines excellence in border management.
Upon assuming office on September 8, 2025, Comptroller Adenuga led the Command to generate ₦1.5 billion in revenue by the end of the month, an astonishing 182% increase from the ₦531 million recorded in August.
On export, the Command facilitated the export of 53,989.46 metric tonnes of agricultural and manufactured goods, valued at ₦7.97 billion (FOB). This aligns with the Federal Government’s economic diversification goals and the CGC’s directive to promote legitimate trade. The Nigeria Export Supervision Scheme (NESS) fee stood at ₦39.87 million.
Anti-Smuggling efforts of the command gave a breakthrough of ₦2billion duty paid value of items seized in a month. Under the CGC’s zero-tolerance policy on smuggling, the Command intercepted harmful goods worth ₦1.99 billion, including: 10,000 bags of expired flour from Egypt (₦1.21 billion DPV), seized in collaboration with NAFDAC, 1,104 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, 120 packs of Tramadol (120mg), with suspects handed over to NDLEA, 2,043 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 150 bales of second-hand clothing, 169 bottles of codeine syrup, and 5 used vehicles.
These seizures reflect the Command’s commitment to public health, national security, and economic stability.
On Stakeholder Engagement & Regional Cooperation, two major stakeholder forums were held from October 6–7, 2025. The local engagement involved heads of security agencies, traditional rulers, and community leaders where it was resolved to eliminate extortion and multiple checkpoints.
The Regional Forum involved Benin Republic Customs, business leaders, and agents who collaborated to harmonize border operations and strengthen the Lagos–Abidjan corridor.
Comptroller Adenuga credited the CGC’s reform agenda, centered on transparency, modernization, and data-driven operations, for the Command’s success. He emphasized that smuggling is economic sabotage and urged traders to invest in legitimate businesses that empower SMEs and create jobs.
He also praised the Nigerian Navy for their support in intercepting smuggled rice on waterways, and thanked the Armed Forces, NPF, DSS, NAFDAC, SON, and community leaders for their cooperation.
There is no doubt that Comptroller Adenuga’s leadership has transformed the Seme Command into a model of efficiency, security, and trade facilitation. His message is clear: the Seme-Krake border is now a gateway to prosperity, not criminality.
The expired flour was subsequently handed over to the representative of NAFDAC while thel cannabis sativa and other drugs were handed over to representative of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
