…Extols him as an accomplished administrator
The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has drummed up support for the second term in office of the Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh OFR, for his exceptional performance.
The foremost maritime union in Nigeria stated that the leadership of NIMASA under Bashir Jamoh has excelled in staff welfare, regular staff promotion and in attending to the needs of stakeholders.
Speaking at a ceremony in Lagos where NIMASA handed over two vehicles to the union, the President General of MWUN who doubles as the Deputy President, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Prince Adewale Adeyanju, said emphatically that based on performance, the NIMASA boss deserves a second term in office.
Adeyanju extolled Jamoh for making dialogue a way of life at NIMASA and for ensuring seamless resolution of labour related issues.
In his words: “Based on performance, Jamoh deserves a second term in office. His achievements speak volume. We have been watching you and we know you have the track record of fulfilling your promises. We charge you to continue as the union will continue to support the humanitarian policies of your management.”
Speaking earlier, Jamoh applauded the union for adopting dialogue in ensuring and maintaining peace in the maritime sector, which he said has aided the peace and industrial harmony witnessed in the sector leading to the successes recorded.
“In the past few years, the maritime industry has experienced relative peace and harmony, which has been made possible through the instrumentality of the leadership of MWUN. NIMASA is committed to ensuring the union is equipped with adequate facilities needed to perform their duties judiciously”, the NIMASA boss noted.
He also charged the Union to continue to support the policies and instruments of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), towards ensuring a better welfare and decent treatment for the seafarers.
“We acknowledge that you have done so much in championing the cause for better wages for Dockworkers, Seafarers and other labour components in the maritime sector. We urge you to continue your stakeholders’ engagement in achieving implementation of international labour laws to achieve better welfare in consonance with international best practices for workers in the maritime sector”.
Jamoh further assured that the Agency would complete the renovation of the headquarters of the Union in order to give members a befitting habitation.
The presentation of the two vehicles, a 16-seater bus and a Hilux was part of the agency’s Corporate Social Responsibility.
