All the 84 disengaged aged dockworkers at Ports & Terminal Multi services Limited (PTML) Tin Can Island Port, Apapa, Lagos have been paid by the management of the terminal.
A press statement issued by the Head of Media, MWUN, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, revealed that 74 of the disengaged aged dockworkers received their wages and benefits recently while 10 others who were deceased were also paid through their next of kins, all numbering 84.
The payment exercise was made under the supervision of Comrade Bello Abubakir (VPG) who represented Prince Adewale Adeyanju, the President -General of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Ibrahim Ohize, President, Dockworkers Branch of the MWUN and other officials of the union.
Prince Adeyanju noted that since inception of the terminal, this is the very first time that PTML will be applying the minimum salary standard (NJIC) to the fullest, even surpassing what was recommended in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for the payment of Dockworkers retirees in its Terminal and it’s worthy of emulation by other terminals who have not done theirs and advised that they should follow suite.
Adeyanju, who doubles as the Deputy President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), praised the management of PTML for taking such laudable bold step ito putting smiles on the faces of both the aged retirees and the family of the deceased who got the entitlements of their departed beloved ones.
