The Acting Director, Corporate Communications Department, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Alhaji Isa Abdulmumin, has declared that old N500 and N1000 notes are now legal tender.
Speaking on Tuesday, Abdulmumin was quoted as saying that though the CBN has not made an official statement, the old naira notes remain legal tender with the Supreme Court judgement.
He confirmed that some commercial banks are already paying their customers the old notes and advised that the old notes should be accepted by all with the new naira notes.
It would be recalled that the Supreme Court ruled last Friday that the old notes should be spent along with the new notes till December 31st, 2023.
