In its quest to ensure a cleaner Lagos and as part of the Agency‘s corporate social responsibility towards ensuring cleaning environment, the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency ( NIMASA) on Friday handed over some protective kits to Lagos State Waste Management Agency (LAWMA) at LAWMA headquarters in ijora Olopa, Lagos.
Representative of the Director General, Director, Internal Audit, Mrs. Olamide Odusanya, said that the Agency has an integrated support system in place in form of care for the environment.
This, according to the DG, is driven through a nationwide corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy in line with enabling appropriations and resources.
Dr. Jamoh said further that NIMASA is on a mission driven by the complexity and peculiarity of governance to reach out and support government and Lagosians in the face of daunting social economic circumstances that require intervention from socially responsible organisations and well meaning individuals.
His words: “NIMASA understands and appreciates that Government as a system cannot function and achieve anything alone. It needs the contribution and support of all to make the society a better place for the citizenry”.
The NIMASA boss disclosed that the aim of the handover of the kits to LAWMA is to raise awareness about the dire need to keep Lagos clean and continually ensure a healthy environment.
On his part, Managing Director/ CEO, Lagos State Waste Management Agency, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin said the gesture extended to the Agency by the management team of NIMASA symbolises a collaborative effort for a clean and safe environment.
He expressed appreciation to NIMASA onbehalf of his team, Government and people of Lagos State.
He said much more is still needed by other Agencies of Government and corporate organisations to ensure a clean environment.
“We need support to acquire more boats, also for training of our workers who go on the sea . We want to sit together with NIMASA to put an end to plastic wastes. The Agency is working with Other Agencies and producers of plastic wastes to ensure that packaging wastes are collected from consumers so that they don’t end up along the coasts”, he said.
The event was attended by management and staff of NIMASA and LAWMA.
