The Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, has announced that the party will adopt consensus in selecting candidates for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued in Lagos, Aniebonam revealed that the NNPP has pardoned all expelled members and will re-admit them into the party. He explained that the consensus approach was chosen to prevent credible candidates from being excluded due to the influence of money politics often seen in primaries.
“We shall avoid scenarios where credible candidates are denied opportunities. Consensus will help us bring out our best candidates rather than those who thrive on money politics,” he said.
According to the founder, automatic tickets are for all elected NNPP members in executive and legislative positions who will retain their tickets for 2027. Female aspirants will enjoy free nomination fees, paying only administrative costs.
Expelled members are pardoned and may return, provided they pledge loyalty to the current leadership under Dr. Agbo Major.
Defectors and new entrants must properly resign from other parties to avoid violating the Electoral Act’s ban on dual membership.
The party reaffirmed its confidence in the Appeal Court judgment from Owerri, which supports its leadership structure, despite delays by INEC in uploading its NWC members and logo.
Aniebonam emphasized that the Screening Committee, in consultation with the National Chairman and Secretary General, will oversee the acceptance of returning members to ensure peace and unity within the party.
He concluded by inviting Nigerians committed to the ideals of a “new Nigeria” to join the NNPP, stressing that the party remains open to politicians who share its vision.
