Amid rising prices of bread and other baked goods, the Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted a major smuggling attempt involving expired flour.
This Thursday morning in Seme, Comptroller Wale Adenuga announced the seizure of five trucks, each carrying 2,000 bags of expired flour, totaling 10,000 bags. The flour, originally produced in Egypt in March 2024, had expired by August 2024, yet was being smuggled into Nigeria by unscrupulous individuals.
Comptroller Adenuga credited the success of the operation to intelligence provided by the Comptroller General of Customs, Wale Adeniyi, who received critical information through collaboration with NAFDAC. He praised Adeniyi’s leadership and described him as “the number one Customs officer in the world,” highlighting his role in sharing timely intelligence with field officers.
The seized flour has a duty paid value exceeding ₦1 billion, underscoring the scale of the attempted smuggling. The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health and maintaining food safety standards.
