In a bold move to promote sports and youth development, the Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) welcomed the leadership of the Nigerian Professional Wrestling Federation (NPWF) on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
Led by NPWF National President Chief John Uche, the delegation was received by Comptroller Frank Onyeka at the Command Headquarters in Lagos. The visit centered on preparations for the upcoming African International Wrestling Championship, slated for October 18–19, 2025, at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, Anambra State.
Chief Uche revealed that the championship will feature wrestling icons and rising stars from Nigeria, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and several African countries. The event aims to spotlight Nigeria’s wrestling talent while empowering over 100 youths through grassroots initiatives.
He emphasized the Federation’s mission to combat youth restiveness, reduce poverty, and create sustainable employment through sports.
Comptroller Onyeka praised the Federation’s efforts and reaffirmed the Customs Service’s commitment to youth-focused programs under the leadership of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, psc (+). He noted that Customs has consistently supported sporting events nationwide and will continue to collaborate with organizations driving national development through athletics.
The highlight of the visit was the unveiling of the championship trophy and the presentation of an award of excellence to Comptroller Onyeka, symbolizing a shared vision for the tournament’s success.
