The Nigeria Customs Service’s Oyo/Osun Area Command held a brief but vibrant ceremony on Wednesday, 3rd September 2025, to mark the formal handover of leadership from Comptroller Joseph Olugbuyi Adelaja (Rtd) to Comptroller Gambo Iyere Aliyu.

Outgoing Area Controller, Comptroller Joseph Olugbuyi Adelaja (Rtd), in his farewell remarks, appreciated Almighty God, the Service management, and officers and men of the Command for their maximum cooperation throughout his tenure. He highlighted the Command’s notable achievements under his stewardship, including remarkable strides in revenue generation, anti-smuggling operations and improved welfare facilities such as the resolution of the long-standing power supply challenges at the barracks, and the installation of solar systems at the mosque and church within the barracks. Comptroller Adelaja(Rtd) urged officers and stakeholders to extend the same support to his successor.

In his response, the new Area Controller, Comptroller Gambo Iyere Aliyu, expressed gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR and the Service management for the confidence reposed in him. He commended the achievements of his predecessor and pledged to build on them. Comptroller Aliyu assured that his administration would focus on three major areas: enhanced revenue generation, an intelligence-driven, anti-smuggling exploit, and prioritization of officers’ welfare alongside strict discipline. He further called for the cooperation of officers, stakeholders, sister agencies, and the host communities to enable the Command to achieve greater success.

The ceremony was attended by senior officers of the Command and heads of units.
