Five Customs Officers Honoured for Exemplary Integrity, Service

In a landmark recognition of integrity within Nigeria’s maritime space, the Save Nigeria Freight Forwarders, Importers & Exporters Coalition (SNFFIEC) has concluded a four-year undercover evaluation of officers at the Nigeria Customs Service, Apapa Command. The result is the emergence of five officers as paragons of transparency, dedication, and professionalism.

On Tuesday, 2nd September 2025, SNFFIEC, led by its National Coordinator, Chief Osita Chukwu PhD, presented the prestigious awards to these officers in a modest yet historic ceremony held at their respective offices. The awards, earned through years of silent monitoring, are a testament to the enduring value of ethical conduct in public service.

DC I. Mohammed, the Officer in Charge of Post Clearance Audit (PCA) received the Diamond Award of Excellence As Best PCA Officer of the Year 2025.
He was recognized for his diligence, transparency, and forthrightness. His nomination was unanimously endorsed by SNFFIEC’s zonal executives.
Responding, DC Mohammed dedicated the award to the Comptroller General Adewale Adeniyi, outgoing Controller, ACG Babatunde Olomu PhD and
his supportive staff team.

AC A. Usman the erstwhile Public Relations Officer of the command was the Gold Meritorious Award for the Most Outstanding PRO of the Decade
He was honoured for distinguished service and consistent excellence over four years for his professionalism and commitment to public engagement.
Responding to the award, the ace image maker described the award as a moral booster and a reminder that public service is always under watch. He dedicated the award to the CGC Adeniyi and and the outgoing Controller, ACG Olomu.

Awaiting DC Nura Miko, the Officer-in-Charge, APM/Revenue, was presented with the Prestigious Meritorious Diamond Award As the Best Revenue Builder of The Year 2024/2025 in Zone A.
Miko was celebrated and honoured for his accessibility, adherence to due process, and tireless efforts in trade facilitation.
Responding, Miko dedicated the award to his colleagues and reaffirmed his commitment to the CGC’s policy of Consolidation, Collaboration, and Innovation.

Awaiting DC A.U. Madugu – Scan Unit, APMT received Meritorious Gold Award for Best Scan Officer 2024/2025
He was commended for punctuality, resilience, and efficiency. His work has significantly improved cargo clearance processes.
In his response, he dedicated the award to CGC Adewale Adeniyi MFR, whom he described as a mentor and inspirational leader.

Awaiting DC Olufemi Kukoyi – Officer-in-Charge, Port Gate was presented with the Meritorious Diamond Award for Best Gate Officer 2024/2025.
He was recognized for his proactive approach to decongesting the port gate and maintaining operational sanity. Known for early starts and late closings.
Responding, he expressed surprise at being monitored and dedicated the award to God Almighty who sees him through all challenges of life and the the CGC.

Chief Chukwu emphasized that SNFFIEC’s awards are not ceremonial tokens but earned recognitions based on rigorous, long-term evaluation. “When you’re given an assignment, do it well—you never know who’s watching,” he remarked.
