SMUGGLERS COUNT LOSSES AS CUSTOMS INTENSIFY SURVEILLANCE

Smugglers operating along the South West corridors are in disarray following an onslaught inflicted on them by the Nigeria Customs Service NCS Federal Operation Unit Zone A Lagos, impounding goods worth N3.145 billions within three weeks. This was disclosed to newsmen in Ikeja Lagos by the Controller FOU Zone A Controller Mohamed Shuaibu while briefing the newsmen on the activities of his Command on its anti smuggling operations. He said that the seizures were made following a renewed anti smuggling surveillance and intelligence gathering by the custom operations between July and August this year 2025 .According to him, a total of 76 interceptions were recorded which included, 7 trucks of Parboiled rice, used vehicles,premium motor spirit PMS, Vegetable oil,used clothing and poultry products. He further gave a breakdown to include 4.068 bags of foreign Parboiled rice, 22 used vehicles, 485 jerry can of PMS containing 12.125 litters and 120 bales of used clothes, others includes 57 parcels of cannabis sativa , 47 cartons of foreign poultry products and 770 jerry can of foreign vegetable oil , while others were impounded for wrong declaration and duty evasion and items in this categories include furniture , spare Parts , used tyres, shoes, canvas and alcoholic drinks.
