President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Tokyo, Japan, early Tuesday morning to participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), scheduled for August 20–22 at the Pacifico Yokohama.
According to a press statement by the Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy), he was welcomed at Haneda International Airport by Ambassador Hideo Matsubara, the Japanese envoy overseeing TICAD logistics, Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, and officials from the Nigerian Embassy. His plane landed at 12:50 a.m. local time.
TICAD, a triennial summit initiated by the Japanese government and co-hosted by the United Nations, UNDP, African Union Commission, and the World Bank, serves as a strategic platform for fostering Africa’s development through global partnerships. The previous edition was held in Tunisia.
This year’s theme, “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” centers on driving economic transformation across the continent by enhancing business environments, strengthening institutions, and promoting private investment and innovation. The summit also aims to advance peace, human security, and sustainable development.
During his visit, President Tinubu is expected to engage in bilateral talks and meet with top executives from Japanese firms investing in Nigeria, reinforcing the country’s commitment to attracting foreign investment and deepening international cooperation.
