The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), led by Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has officially confirmed Comrade Oniha Erazua as the substantive Secretary-General of the Union. The announcement was made on Friday, August 13, 2025, during a joint session of the National Administrative Committee (NAC) and the Central Working Committee (CWC).
Comrade Oniha, who had been serving in an acting capacity for six months, steps into the role following the retirement of Comrade Felix Akingboye. A seasoned unionist, Oniha previously held the positions of Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary-General, where he oversaw Training & Research, Education, and Media. He hails from Edo State and holds a Master’s degree from the University of Ibadan. Before joining MWUN, he had a brief career in teaching.
Also Comrade Olangwe Fred Dagogo who was the former Organising Secretary, has been promoted to General Secretary of the Seamen & Water Transport Branch. He is a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Port Harcourt and is known for his diligent service.
Comrade Joseph Ekwere’s appointment as General Secretary of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Branch has also been confirmed. He previously served as Computer Secretary under the Seamen & Water Transport Branch. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Lagos.
The Union has extended its congratulations to all three comrades, recognizing their dedication and contributions to the growth and stability of MWUN.
