The Apapa Port Command Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Babatunde O. Olomu PhD, has received glowing commendation from the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) for transformative reforms aimed at streamlining port operations.
During his courtesy visit to the ANLCA national secretariat in Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos, Comptroller Olomu was hailed for reducing Customs alert departments to just two—CPC and Valuation—a move that has drastically minimized delays and improved clearance efficiency.
In his welcome remarks, Hon. Emeka Chukwumalu, Executive Chairman of ANLCA Apapa Chapter, praised the harmonization of gate control systems and the positive impact it has had on daily cargo movement. He also highlighted Olomu’s commitment to capacity building through the training of members on the Truck Transit Park, enabling them to obtain ETO wallets critical to operational success.
“Thanks to this training,” Chukwumalu noted, his members have seen transportation costs plummet from ₦1.2 million to ₦350,000, substantially improving profitability and reducing overhead. He further acknowledged the provision of logistics and infrastructure that ensured the training’s success.
Beyond accolades, Chukwumalu raised a few areas of concern. He called for the streamlining of the fast track clearance process, which he said has become cumbersome. He also appealed for ANLCA’s inclusion in Customs’ Corporate Social Responsibility programs to strengthen institutional partnerships.
In response, Comptroller Olomu described ANLCA as the “mother and grandmother” of all licensed agents, underscoring its historical importance in maritime affairs. He acknowledged ANLCA’s support in helping the command record N2.33578 trillion in revenue collection in the first half of 2025, stating, “There’s no doubt—we are partners. We need each other to succeed.”
He assured the association of swift attention to the issues raised, reinforcing his commitment to continued collaboration.
