LASCOPA Recovers Over N475 Million for Consumers in Lagos

The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has successfully recovered more than ₦475 million for consumers who reported unsatisfactory goods and services. This announcement was made during the 2025 Distinguished Customer Service Appreciation Night, themed “Standard & Satisfactory Service Delivery in a Challenged Economy.”

Speaking at the event, LASCOPA General Manager, Mr. Afolabi Solebo, reaffirmed the agency’s mission to uphold the rights of consumers—ranging from the right to safety and choice, to redress and education. He encouraged Lagos residents to speak up and file complaints if they experience unfair treatment by businesses or service providers.

To date, LASCOPA has resolved over 10,078 cases out of more than 10,772 received, including:
– ₦38 million recovered from banks over failed transactions
– ₦35 million from defective electronics complaints
– ₦35.5 million and $8,331 from both local and international airlines
– ₦20 million from cases related to online transactions.

Solebo emphasized that LASCOPA’s services are free and open to all Lagos residents. He advised consumers to be cautious with online purchases—recommending payment after delivery and verifying seller details.

The event also celebrated individuals and organizations excelling in customer service. Notably, Trucks Transit Parks Limited won the “Topmost Logistics Service Provider 2025” award, while other honorees included leaders across logistics, journalism, and public service.

Notable individuals who also won awards include the Executive Chairman/Chief Consultant, Global Transport Policy, Hon. Dr. Oluwasegun M. Musa, who won the Public Service Man of the Year 2025 Gold Award. Others are National President of National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), High Chief Tochukwu Ezisi, who won the “Top Logistics Provider 2025 Gold Award”, the President of Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), Mr Godfrey Bivbere, who won DCS Celebrity Gold Award. Fwdr. Joseph Atoloye, MD/CEO, Waltolye Ltd won the Customer Choice Award 2025 while Dr. Azeez Abayomi Mustapha won the Customer Friendly Logistics Company Award 2025. An Amazon, Dr. Bernard U. Anita won the Multipurpose Customer Choice Award.
