The Zonal Coordinator, Zone A Lagos, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), ACG Charles Obih has encouraged Customs personnel to demonstrate professionalism and innovation in their roles, noting that their collective actions play a critical role in Nigeria’s economic competitiveness and security.
Speaking at the commemoration of the 2025 International Customs Day with the theme ”Customs Delivering on its Commitment to Efficiency, Security, and Prosperity,” at Tin Can Command of the Service in Lagos on Monday, 27 January, 2025, ACG Obih
highlighted the alignment of the WCO theme with the strategic vision of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, which focuses on Collaboration, Consolidation, and Innovation which are essential to achieving the ideals of the theme.
The ACG noted that innovation drives efficiency, enhances security, and leads to prosperity.
He celebrated the remarkable revenue milestone achieved by the Tin Can Command, which generated ₦86 billion by January 27, surpassing the ₦83 billion collected in January 2024.
Orbih enjoined Customs officers to key in to this year’s theme in their operations, stating that starting from Tin Can Command, Customs must do things the right way to improve efficiency, national security, and revenue generation, which lead to prosperity.
He used the event to celebrate outstanding officers and stakeholders whose contributions have advanced the Service’s mission.
The Customs Area Controller of the command, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, seized the occasion to unveil a comprehensive action plan he has for the Command.
The plan, according to him, is anchored on three pillars of Capacity Building; Enhanced Collaboration; and, Accountability and Integrity
On Capacity Building, there will be continuous training and professional development to prepare officers for modern customs operations.
Enhanced Collaboration will ensure strengthening partnerships with private sector players, government agencies, and international organizations for unified trade and border management.
Accountability and Integrity will uphold the highest standards of transparency to build public trust.
As Customs officers’ work impacts millions across the nation and billions continentally, Comptroller Onyeka urged officers to see their roles as crucial to Nigeria’s prosperity and global economy.
