As the Association Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) chapter election fast approaches, campaign flags and posters have once again begun to surface. One of the striking faces in the pool is the frontline contender for the Apapa chapter chairmanship position, Emeka Chukwumalu, a.k.a Honourable.
Emeka, former ace image maker who also goes by the name Akwudoleze is a seasoned Customs broker with over 20 years experience. One of his great assets is that he has zero tolerance for oppression. He is a consensus builder, interest aggregator, political mobilizer and an uncompromising defender of Customs brokers.
According to Martin O’Malley, “An election is an opportunity for a new consensus.”
This of course is another election season. Looking at the list of aspirants interested in the position, Chukwumalu stands out not just because of his deep knowledge of Apapa port and environs but because he is a visionary, a tested and trusted hand, and is well-known for his welfarist appeal, accountability and probity.
The popular Chukwumalu will bring to bear his wealth of experience, his administrative ingenuity and prowess in the day to day running of the affairs of Apapa ANLCA as its Chairman.
This is a golden opportunity for an accomplished administrator to be in the saddle which all members of ANLCA in Apapa chapter must not allow to slip away by voting massively for
him.
Beyond this, he is focused and admired among colleagues and industry players in the sector.
He was the taskforce Coordinator of ANLCA Apapa during the period of Olumide Fakanlu as the Apapa Chairman and his team did excellently well. Based on his performance on that team, he was elected the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Chapter. He has retained this position back to back during the Tenure of Onyeka Dom (MUDOMS).
Not wanting to let go, because of administrative acumen, his colleagues approached him to contest the chairmanship position citing his bundle of political energy and sagacity. As the visionary that he is, his campaign manifesto has identified five major characteristics that qualify him to assume the Chairmanship position.
They are, Tested and Trusted: He is well-known member of ANLCA Apapa who does not need introduction.
He is an asset and not a political liability.
Passion Driven: As pointed out above, one of his potentials is that he has a bundle of political energy and sagacity. Whatever he does he gives it his best and is not given to excuses or discouragement. He is a man who does not take no for an answer.
Goal-oriented: As a focused leader, his eye is always on what he intends to deliver. Chukwumalu was one of those who campaigned against intimidation of clearing agents by Customs during the time of Abdullahi Dikko Inde as the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service. His goal is to create a level playing field for cargo clearing at the ports.
Team player: His record as a member of the task force team is there for everyone to see. He appreciates team spirit and believes so much in the slogan, “Unity is Strength.”
Quality leadership: This asset is a given. If elected the Chairman, Chukwumalu whose record as hardest working PRO of the chapter resonates with members will make the chapter the envy of other associations. He has leadership experience to his advantage and his colleagues believe that he is the best man for the job.
