The nation’s seaport economic regulator, Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has been flayed for the 17th International Seminar for Judges it held in Abuja this week at this austere time of hardship.
Berating the Council for being insensitive to the needs of the sector it regulates, the Save Nigeria Freight Forwarders, Importers and Exporters Coalition (SNFFIEC) lamented that shippers and other port users are facing daunting challenges that NSC needs to tackle headlong instead of organizing a wasteful jamboree for judges in Abuja.
The National Coordinator of SNFFIEC, Chief (Dr.) Osita Chukwu, said in a statement in Lagos that the event was a sheer waste of fund and resources.
The National Coordinator queried what prompted the wasteful venture that has continued to repeat itself yearly when the NSC is still grappling with its role to Nigerian shippers and their service providers.
Chukwu expressed the fear that the budgetary allocation meant to be used to develop, protect, project, train and proffer solutions that will enable indigenous shippers to grow might have been expended on this frivolity.
He called for immediate halt of this wasteful jamboree even as he called on the Federal Government to as a matter of necessity “place embargo on this wasteful seminar and conference.”
