The leadership of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has
promised to quickly wade into the financial challenges being faced by the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) by engaging with the government and all the necessary revenue generating agencies and stakeholders in the Maritime sector, so as to effectively nip in the board the bottleneck militating against the CRFFN’s core obligations towards all the agencies under its regulation in the country, and to also effectively manage the day to day administration of the body; even as workers salaries are yet to be paid for over six months running.
The President-General of MWUN, Dr. (Prince) Adewale Adeyanju who spoke while the union leadership paid a courtesy visit to the acting Registrar of CRFFN, Mrs Uromta Chinyere C. at its operational headquarters in Marina, Lagos, noted that CRFFN’s name has been removed from the usual annual budgetry allocations by the federal government; which had practically paralysed all functions of the Regulating body.
He thanked the Registrar for her resilience and commitment to duty in carrying out her obligations in the face of the difficulty and the biting challenges as explained.
Earlier, the Registrar intimated on the constitution of a “Technical Committee On Identification Of Challenges Militating Against Its Speedy And Efficient Service Delivery On Mandate Of The Council”.
She said that it was one of the major reasons the Regulating body had to identify with the Union by affiliate of membership in the Shipping, Clearing & Forwarding Agencies Workers Branch of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, given to the newly created Ministry of Marine & Blue Economy by the President of Nigeria, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCON.
