…As Apapa command collects N1.175trn in 2023
The Controller of Apapa Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller BA Jaiyeoba, has tasked newly promoted officers of the command to justify their promotion with hard work.
Speaking during the decoration of officers at the command last week, Jaiyeoba noted that promotion does not come from man but from God and by dint of hard work and therefore reiterated that the promoted officers should put in their best.
He urged those not yet promoted to wait for their own time and continue to put in their best as their own will also come.
The controller lauded CG Adewale Adeniyi for fulfilling his promise of ensuring that officers get promotion as at when due.
According to Jaiyeoba, it was the first time in the history of the service that promotion examination would be written and officers promoted within the same year.
He informed that 74 officers of the command were promoted in the last exercise.
The controller said that six deputy controllers from the premier command were promoted to the rank of controllers while 10 assistant controllers were promoted to the rank of deputy controllers.
He further hinted that 31 chief superintendents were lifted up to the rank of assistant controllers while 27 superintendents were promoted to the rank of chief superintendents.
Jaiyeoba also disclosed that the command generated N1.175 trillion in 2023 which is the highest revenue generated within a year in the history of the command.
He said that the command was able to achieve the revenue feat by reviewing its strategies at first every day and later every three days and later twice a week.
He specifically commended AC Ibrahim Miko and two other officers for distinguishing themselves in ensuring that the command achieve greatness in its core functions.
The controller was elated that AC Miko would still remain in the command after his promotion to continue his good work in the command.
He presented Miko with an award for his rare contributions to the growth of the command after his decoration.
In her speech, the Controller, Post Clearance Audit (PCA), Apapa, Comptroller Caroline Ebunoluwa Ayo commended Miko for his punctuality during his training at Customs Training College, Gwagwalada, Abuja.
She said that she had since then observed that Miko would go places and be a performer anywhere he finds himself even as she encouraged him to keep it up.
The PCA boss urged all the promoted officers to be humble and not allow ego to ruin their lives.
She enjoined them to be ready to cooperate, collaborate, read and be ready for training and retraining which will help them in their career.
In a brief chat with People’s Forum after the ceremony, Miko said he didn’t expect the award because he is not seeing what he’s doing as special.
He however, said that he likes to add value to whatever he does and always think out of box to resolve issues.
He maintained that as a risk manager at ICT section, he works hand in hand with trade facilitation as he loves to facilitate trade for the good of all.
On why every officer was commending him, Miko said he does his job like every other officer but added that “sometimes you have to strike a balance between trade facilitation, revenue generation and security. You have to think of all that and use your wisdom to facilitate trade.”
