The former President Indigenous Shipowners Association of Nigeria (ISAN) and Chairman, Board of Trustees of Nigerian Shipowners’ Association (NISA), Chief (Dr.) Isaac Jolapamo has lauded the resilient support given by the foremost maritime media association, Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), to his association, ISAN.
Jolapomo who was giving his goodwill message yesterday at the maiden edition of Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria’s Annual Maritime Lecture (MAMAL 2023) stated emphatically that if not for MARAN’s support the shipowners association would have become history a long time ago.
In his words: “We must thank MARAN for bringing us to the limelight. Without MARAN, ISAN could not have survived in the hands of government workers.”
The shipping magnate lamented the state of the nation’s maritime security.
According to him, “There is a lot to be said about security on Nigerian waters before it extends to the Gulf of Guinea and this dates back to over 40 years.”
Chief Jolapamo decried the pitiable state of the present Nigerian shipowners, alleging that shipowners are meant to be heard and not seen.
He thanked MARAN, the organizers of the event for the initiative in bringing such a program to the fore at this very precarious time.
