INEC declares Tinubu President-elect
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Jagaban of Borgu has been declared the winner of Saturday’s presidential election.
Tinubu, the standard bearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) according to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) got 8,794,726 votes, while Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) came in second with 6,984,520.
The Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, came third with 6,101,533 votes.
The two leading opposition parties, PDP and LP had earlier cried that delays in uploading results gave room for irregularities, making them to call for the cancellation of the election results.
As it is, Alhaji Atiku and Mr Obi may head to the court as none of them has called the president-elect to congratulate him.
Meanwhile, the victorious APC has enjoined the PDP and LP to accept defeat and not cause trouble.
The aggrieved parties have three weeks to appeal the results if not satisfied.
