The Certified Institute of Shipping of Nigeria (CISN) on Thursday matriculated a total of 1,369 students into its different academic programmes at its main campus along Badagry Express way, Magbon, Lagos.
Ordinary National Diploma (OND) has the larger chunk with 1,141 students matriculated to study Marine Engineering Technology, Shipping Management and Security Management and Technology.
A total of 228 were matriculated into the Higher National Diploma to study Management, PDG STS and Security Management.
In his welcome address, the Rector of the institute, Mr. Okwuashi Philip stressed the commitment of the institute to give quality Maritime Transport education to its students so that they can get acquainted to the current industry and world’s best practices, associated to their field of discipline.
Mr. Okwuashi said that the CISN plans to take it a notch forward by initiating more seminars and opportunities for learning and development beyond its traditional academic curriculum.
According to the Rector, by adopting this method of learning, the institute can’t be left behind, but would put the students ahead to compete favourably in the labour market.
He informed that graduates of other fields/disciplines, both individuals and organisations, who wish to partake in the benefit of Maritime Transport Education could apply to the institute for the CISN yearly batches of the Graduate Induction Training Program.
“As we matriculate new sets of 2022/2023 students and cadets, we charge them to be law abiding and take up the challenges that will be thrown at them and also justify the enormous resources their sponsors and parents are investing on them, to give them a better future,” the Rector enthused.
The matriculation ceremonies included taking of oath by the matriculating students, giving of prizes, match past parade and military exercises.
The ceremony was witnessed by the founder and proprietor of the school, Prof. Alex Favour Okwuashi and other dignatories.
Aside its state of the art campus along Badagry Express way, Magbon, Lagos, the CISN has learning centres in Ikorodu, Ikeja, Ibadan and Port Harcourt.
